ARTIST STATEMENT

Art to me, as too many others, has always been a form of personal expression. My love and appreciation for all mediums of art sprouted at an early age due to my mother's influence on me as a painter. Growing up I often wrote poetry and painted colourful journals about my life experiences. As a young girl, I spent most days cloud gazing and dreaming of the world around me.

At thirteen we picked up and moved to Cairo, Egypt to better appreciate Middle Eastern culture, its history and the ways of my father's people. Being homeschooled and free from the typical classroom setting we spent years traveling across Egypt, climbing mountains, studying pharaonic temples, camping under the deserts starlit skies and did our readings by the red sea, which commenced my current passion for travel.

Being a photographer allows me to pursue my love for travel and capture what I see along the way. I have been documenting my travels for years; my favourite frame of work is portraiture. There is something so untainted about the human face, the eyes are a window to the soul that tell both beautiful and other times heartbreaking stories beyond one's understanding.

I think of my images as the building of an unfolding story. They’re candid moments of honesty and pure emotion in a person or place. I believe my passion for storytelling gives me a unique artistic approach when photographing people. I am interested in documenting real smiles, and sincere expressions shared between people with a filmy finish.

Though I grew up in the countryside in Northern Ontario, Canada, I moved to the Gulf in 2014. And while I prefer gravel roads, stars, and untouched greenery to city lights and skyscrapers I’m happy to gain new cultural experiences and breathe life in a new corner of the world with my beautiful daughters and loving husband.
